Good satire is subtle, and modern graphic techniques present excellent opportunities to achieve that. This famous painting of a benevolent George W. Bush in front of Mt. Rushmore was changed to portray a more serious and hard face, with skeletons carved out of the mountain rock and a war-torn sky overhead.
